EC
in the ER
Emergency contraception (EC)has been available for more
than 25 years and can prevent over 1.7 million unintended
pregnancies and over 800,000 abortions each year
in the United States. It is a safe and effective form
of contraception, and women who have used it report
high levels of satisfaction.
Despite its enormous potential, anti-choice groups oppose
emergency contraception. In order to hinder women's
access to this important method of contraception, they
claim that EC is an abortifacient, and they distribute
other misinformation about its safety and efficacy.
